Project Vision & Core Requirements
Detailed analysis of the 10 core engineering and musical functionalities required to build an adaptive, high-precision guitar practice mobile application.
Level-Adaptive Guitar String Practice Notes
Procedurally generates targeted practice notes tailored to the guitarist's experience tier. Beginners practice open strings and frets 0–3 with fundamental quarter/half notes; Intermediates tackle frets 0–7 with position shifts, eighth notes, and basic string crossing; Advanced players train with full fretboard coverage (frets 0–12+), syncopated sixteenth notes, triplets, and arpeggios.
Integrated Metronome & Rhythm Engine
A sample-accurate, multi-meter metronome embedded into the practice flow. Supports tempo adjustments from 40 to 240 BPM with slider, stepper, and Tap Tempo detection. Provides flexible time signatures including common meters (4/4, 3/4, 2/4) and compound/odd meters (6/8, 5/4, 7/8) with distinct downbeat audio-visual pulse cues.
Targeted Single-String Sheet Music & Tabs
Select any guitar string by number (1 to 6) or pitch name (High E, B, G, D, A, Low E) to dynamically synthesize exercise routines strictly isolated to that string. Renders synchronized dual notation: standard treble staff notation on top and an authentic 6-line guitar tablature (TAB) system below.
3-Tab Stack Layout & Continuous Auto-Scroll
Displays exercises formatted into 3 stacked tab systems simultaneously: System 1 (Currently Playing), System 2 (Upcoming Measure), and System 3 (On-Deck Sight-Reading). As playback progresses, the viewport smoothly auto-scrolls vertically in lockstep with the metronome BPM, dynamically recycling passed measures with newly generated music.
Adaptive Tab Viewport & Density Configuration
Enables flexible density scaling based on student visual tracking capabilities, device dimensions, and tempo. Allows users and teachers to toggle visible system counts (2, 3, or 4 systems) and adjust measure density (2 to 6 bars per line). Beginners benefit from large, spaced fret indicators while advanced readers enjoy high-density passages.
Real-Time Note Highlighting on Metronome Ticks
Synchronous visual playhead tracking that highlights active notes precisely when the metronome ticks. Employs a luminous accent bounding box over both the musical staff notehead and the tab fret digit. Highlight duration adheres to note value mathematics (quarter note = 1 beat, eighth note = 0.5 beat, sixteenth note = 0.25 beat).
Sheet Music Photo Scanner & OMR Engine
An integrated Optical Music Recognition (OMR) pipeline that allows students to snap a photo or upload an image of physical sheet music. The engine detects staff lines, clefs, note heads, and rhythmic stems, transposing detected pitches into optimal guitar fretboard fingerings and rendering them into the interactive scrolling tab player.
Harmonic & Melodic Rule Engine
Ensures procedurally generated sheet music sounds melodically coherent and aesthetically pleasing rather than random noise. Enforces tonal theory including Major, Natural Minor, Pentatonic, and Blues scales, consonant intervals, stepwise motion, rhythmic phrasing symmetry, and cadence resolutions onto stable root/fifth downbeats.
Live Audio Playback Listening & Accuracy Report
An intelligent acoustic listening engine that captures the guitarist's live playback via the device microphone. Employs real-time pitch detection (YIN / Autocorrelation) and onset timing algorithms to evaluate played notes against the sheet music tabs, generating a comprehensive Performance Accuracy Report with note precision percentage, millisecond timing deviations (rushing/dragging), and fret accuracy breakdown.
Key & Note Signature Selector for Tab Generation
Allows students and music tutors to explicitly configure the key/note signature (e.g. C Major, G Major with 1 sharp, F Major with 1 flat, D Major, etc.) and accidental rules applied during procedural tab generation. The algorithmic generator strictly constrains fret and string choices to the selected signature, rendering proper clef key signature markings on standard notation and exact corresponding fret numbers on the guitar tabs.
Technical Architecture & Engine Modules
The core engineering blocks and data pipelines required to power real-time musical rendering and synchronization.
High-Precision Audio Engine
Sample-accurate background scheduling avoiding UI thread jitter. Triggers synthesizer audio pulses for downbeats and subdivisions in exact sync with animation frames.
Dynamic Canvas Tab Renderer
Custom painter rendering high-DPI vector treble staves, standard music notation symbols, and 6-line guitar tab systems with dynamic bounding-box highlights.
Algorithmic OMR & Music AI
Computer vision edge-detection and morphological filtering to isolate staff lines, identify noteheads, and map pitch data to ergonomic guitar fret positions.
